Shooting Times Woodcock Club dinner raises £4,500 for research

The event, sponsored by Glenfarclas whisky, was held at Carlton Towers — home to Lord Gerald Fitzalan Howard, who runs a Purdey award-winning grey partridge conservation project.

Club members dug deep for several lots and raffle prizes donated by a range of businesses and supportive individuals.

“This year’s dinner was one of our most successful,” said Editor Alastair Balmain, “and I’d like to thank all those involved in organising it and backing it, including guest speaker Sir Barney White-Spunner (pictured), executive chairman of the CA.

It was a memorable evening — I certainly won’t forget our host’s Labrador attacking an otter sporran that happened to be hanging round the waist of a guest from Scotland.”

Membership of the Shooting Times Woodcock Club is open to those who have shot a right-and-left at woodcock.
