Barry Atkinson,, with his English springer spaniel Spider, also called for shoots that they have still not visited to get in touch, as they attempt to raise £1million for the National Gamekeepers? Organisation Educational Trust and Cancer Research UK by beating on 1,000 different shoots.

Barry said: ?In the past nine seasons, I?ve driven more than 20,000 miles, and visited 930 different shoots ? just 70 short of our target total.?

?But the appeal still attracts wonderful support, and the fund-raising running total is now in excess of £350,000. Many thanks to all those who have made the much appreciated donations.?

Barry said that a highlight of the coming season would be a visit to the Red Grouse Restoration Project in Northern Ireland.

He said: ?This will strengthen our mission to establish the red grouse as the UK?s national bird. It is our only native bird, unique to the UK, and deserves to be recognised.?
