When pigeon shooting, how many floaters should I use?

Floaters are designed to replicate real pigeons gliding into the pattern, so need to be set on the wings of the pattern, rather than in the landing zone.

To this end, it does not matter if they are out of range of the hide, as birds are unlikely to try and land with them.

How many you use depends entirely on how the pigeons are committing to the main pattern.

Generally speaking, I would use more in situations where the layout is difficult to see, and would probably not employ them at all on, say, drillings.
