<strong>Olympic hopeful Peter Wilson smashes shotgun world record</strong>
Team GB?s Peter Wilson has smashed the double-trap world record at the latest ISSF Shotgun World Cup event held in Tucson, Arizona.
The 25-year-old shooter from Dorset won the double-trap final with 198 hits out of 200 targets, and must now be considered a favourite to win gold at this summer?s Games in London.
After qualifying with a score of 148, Wilson kept calm under pressure in the medal match, shooting a perfect round of 50 for a total score of 198 ? beating the previous record of 196 hits, which was set in 2009 by China?s 2008 Olympic medallist Hu Binyuan.
Though Britain?s Olympic shooting team will not be selected until 2 May, Wilson said that he now felt confident that he would make the team, following consistently impressive performances over the past 12 months.
