I have been offered a side-by-side Ugartechea sidelock 12-bore, with 28-inch barrels choked three quarters and full.
The gun dates from 1973, and is in excellent condition. Would it be suitable for game shooting?

MIKE GEORGE says:
Ugartechea is a gunmaker based in the Basque country of northern Spain and, like their better-known fellow countrymen AYA, have built some very fine English look-alike guns.
Accepting that the gun has no hidden faults, it seems ideal to me but with one exception.
Unless you are lucky enough to shoot very high pheasants all the time, the choking is a bit tight.
For personal preference, I would get a gunsmith to bore the chokes out to quarter and half.
