The home of Shooting Times and Sporting Gun

What’s holding me back when clay pigeon shooting?

I use the same 30in gun for everything so I can’t place blame there. What’s holding me back?

CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING

The fact you shoot such good scores proves you are able to concentrate well, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t do a lot better at Sporting.

I suspect the fault is down to how little time you spend shooting Sporting compared to the other two disciplines. Sporting targets are vastly more varied in terms of speeds, angles and distances.

And unlike skeet and trap layouts no two Sporting courses are ever the same so to shoot them well you need to develop better all-round skills.

If you can hit 90% of Skeet targets then you have clearly got a gun that’s up to the Sporting task… all you need to do is shoot more of it to see those scores get better!
