Are barking deer warning each other when I’m deer stalking?

Deer stalking: Yesterday I stalked a fairly large wood and spotted several roe deer, but didn’t get a shot. After a while the deer started to bark at one another.

Why? Is it because they spotted me and were warning each other?

DEER STALKING

My observations suggest that deer only bark when they are relatively undisturbed and they become less vocal when pressure from hunting is high.

If these deer had spotted you they would’ve simply melted away or even bounded off at high speed at the first sign of danger.

The fact the deer kept ‘talking’ to each other while you made your way through the wood says quite a lot about your deer stalking skills.

Well done!
