From Italian roots to American revival
FAMARS was founded in 1967 by Mario Abbiatico, a renowned engraver, and Remo Salvinelli, a talented actioner. They quickly earned international attention for their attention to detail, especially in engraving and woodwork.
By 1975, the company focused solely on bespoke guns, attracting top-tier collectors from around the globe.
But after decades of success, FAMARS hit troubled waters. Following Abbiatico’s death in 1984, his daughter Cristina Abbiatico and brother Paolo took the reins. Despite their efforts, financial difficulties led to a two-year bankruptcy period.
In 2014, Paul Mihailides stepped in. A long-time collector and one of America’s most prominent firearms enthusiasts, he bought the company and brought it back to life.
