Various shooting grounds across the country are hosting Young Shots days to get young people involved in shooting during the summer holidays.
The Purdey Young Shots course for 10-17 year olds provides the perfect introduction into shooting. After a traditional Shoot breakfast at 9am, the children are taught safety and etiquette and the skills to use a shotgun, rifle and air-rifle run. The price for the course is £135 per person all inclusive.

There is a jam packed summer programme of BASC Young Shot days across the country. From “Young Shots Intro Day” in Exmoor, Somerset to “BASC Airgun Progression Day” at Emmet and Stone in Buckinghamshire and even a “Young Shots Step by Step Gundog Training” with Frank Walker in Suffolk, there will be plenty to keep your youngsters occupied during August, wherever in the country you are. Prices start at just £25 for BASC Young Shot members so the courses prove good value for money too.

On 25th August the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust will be hosting a Scottish Young Shooters Day. Boys and girls aged between 12 and 15 will have an opportunity to take part in an inspiring day of shoot tuition and basic game and shoot management. Participants will gain insight into basic conservation skills, modern game management techniques, including a tunnel trapping competition and preparing game for the table. Places are £50 each.

The Schools Challenge has four Novice Instruction days at The Oxford Gun Company on 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd August. For youngsters between the ages of 12-21 there will be a full day of instruction. The price of £109 (or £99 if booked with a friend) includes clays, cartridges, use of a gun and refreshments. There is also a competition where the top 2 shots from each day will be entered into the final on the 27th August for a chance to win some great kit.

On 25 July, Bisley will be hosting a bespoke clay shooting event for 10-16 year olds. The qualified instructors will escort the Young Shots on a tour of the world-class grounds shooting clays and air rifles. The day is suitable for all levels of experience and with their huge array of shotguns and custom loaded cartridges that give less recoil, it will be a great day all round. The day includes breakfast on arrival, clays and cartridges, tuition, gun hire and all safety equipment and costs just £77.00 for Members and £90.00 for Non Members.

If you are north of the border, Bisley at Braidwood are having a Young Shots Day on 1st July. Open to all between the ages of 10-17 years old, the day costs £40 which includes clays and cartridges, tuition, gun hire, safety equipment and refreshments.
