Gun fitting: I am toying with the idea of buying a gun with a skeleton adjustable stock so that I can set it up to fit me perfectly, then transfer the measurements to any other gun I might buy in the future.
Stocks & forends waiting for finisher
Q: I am thinking of buying a gun with a skeleton adjustable gun stock so that I can set it up to fit me perfectly. What do you think of this?
A: My view is that such gun stocks have limited application unless they’re in the hands of an experienced gun fitter who knows what he’s at.
Furthermore, why go to the expense of buying a gun of this sort when very accurate assessments on gun fit can actually be made by a competent coach watching you shoot with your own gun?
Remember, too, that the weight and balance of a try gun is likely to be a lot different to other guns you might end up buying, and this will have implications on the way they handle and perform. (John Bidwell)
