Shooters urged to return tagged woodcock

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) has asked for help from the shooting community to find tagged woodcock released early last year. Twenty-three tags were attached to woodcock in Cornwall and four in Wales, and the GWCT is now trying to recapture the birds in their wintering areas to download daily location data.

Dr Andrew Hoodless, the GWCT?s head of wetland research, said: ?Before we embark on a full study, we need to know that the technology works. We would be grateful for the return of any geolocators that are attached to shot birds or to birds that have died from other causes.?
