The Grenadier Guards has launched a new welfare charity - on returning from Afghanistan last year - having suffered 5 fatalities, 32 seriously wounded and an as yet indeterminable number of psychiatric injuries.
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the Colonel, has agreed to be the patron and the charity is called The Colonel’s Fund.
An official launch was held at the Guildhall in the City of London, at which the Colonel was in attendance, and the Fund has been running a number of other smaller events and schemes through the Grenadier family.
One forthcoming event is a day at Bisley Shooting Ground on 16th June where 60 teams of 5 will have the run of the 3,000 acre ground for a full day of shooting clays and a hearty lunch.
