A new app, designed to give game shots a digital record of their performance throughout the season, has launched.
TopGun, described by its developers as the “world’s first digital game card”, allows users to log shots during each drive and tracks a shots-to-bag ratio over time. The shot counter uses the phone’s built-in microphone and AI processing. While the developers claim accuracy above 95%, they add that any discrepancies can be corrected manually.
The app arrives as a digital alternative to the traditional game card, a record-keeping practice with roots stretching back centuries. “I’ve always found it odd that we must be the only sport that doesn’t keep score,” said James Davis, founder of TopGun. “We wanted to honour the heritage of game shooting while bringing in a new layer of competition and allowing you to keep an archive of your shoot days.”

Guns can record shoot days with photographs, manage syndicate days and compete against other shots via a UK-wide national leaderboard. Users operate under a permanent alias in public areas of the app, with their real name visible only to those from whom they have accepted a friend request.
For those shooting in areas with poor signal, the app functions offline once a shoot has been set up, with data uploading when a connection is restored. Shoot owners and gamekeepers can also access historical data through the app, which its developers say may assist with planning and record-keeping.

TopGun is available on iOS and Android.
