Ted, the Patterdale terrier mix who became an unlikely star of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, has died aged 13.
The dog, owned by the BBC show’s executive producer Lisa Clark, first appeared in series three in 2020 and went on to become a fixture on British riverbanks alongside hosts Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse, stealing jammy dodgers, rifling through bait bags and charming viewers in equal measure.
Mortimer called him “the best companion and the greatest little chum”, while Whitehouse added: “He wasn’t a dog, he was a species all of his own. He’s gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate.”
Clark said Ted “loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks” and would be “sorely missed both at home and on screen”. He will make one final appearance in series nine of Gone Fishing, due to air later this year.
