Country Gun columnist presented with award in recognition of his work to promote shooting and the countryside
Shooting Times legend John Humphreys has been presented with a lifetime achievement award for his work to promote shooting and the countryside. John, who was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus last year, was presented with a Julian Novorol painting of wildfowl (right) by BASC Chief Executive John Swift and former editor of Shooting Times Mark Hedges.
Speaking at the presentation, John Swift said: ?Since your illness has become known ? so bravely written about by you in Shooting Times ? your courage has been a source of great inspiration and there has been much spontaneous support expressed for both you and all the family.
?Over many years you have inspired, entertained and challenged us all ? not least to think hard about the things we all share and love so much, our sport and the wild places. Thank you sincerely.?
The inspiration behind the award was Natural England Chief Executive Helen Phillips, whose attendance on the day was testimony to the work that John has done over the years to influence policy on shooting and wildlife.
