Deer stalking: The stalker I go out with insists I do not smoke, or drink from a Thermos when I go stalking because roe deer can smell things like this a mile away. Does he have a point?
DEER STALKING
George Wallace
I suppose if you book deer stalking with a guide then you will have to operate by his rules but if you’re upwind of a deer, any deer, it’s going to get scent of you as a nasty human being and scarper anyway, regardless of any tomato soup or tobacco odours that might waft along with it as well.
Come summer time in the north of England and Scotland I can imagine quite a few guides being glad of the company of a smoker – tobacco smoke is about the only thing that stops mozzies eating you alive while you’re sitting patiently in a high seat waiting for a deer to step into a ride UPWIND of the rifle.
However, because your stalker makes the rules you are going to have to follow his wishes.
