BBC’s rural coverage under review after bias in its reporting

In a statement, the Trust said: The impartiality of the BBC’s coverage of rural areas of the UK is to be examined by the BBC Trust in a review announced [last] week.

Last autumn, the BBC was accused of bias in its reporting of the planned badger cull, and National Farmers Union president Peter Kendall wrote to the then BBC director general, George Entwistle, calling for a review of the way the topic was being reported.

In one episode of BBC Two’s Newsnight (September 2012), the Corporation pixelated the face of a protestor threatening direct action, while naming and showing a farmer who was in favour of the cull.
