Shooting has been omitted from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It is the second successive games not to include shooting after Birmingham also pulled the events in 2022.

Organisers in Glasgow unveiled the 10 sports in a slimmed-down games, having stepped in to host them after the Australian state of Victoria pulled out. The decision follows a successful Olympics for British shooters, with Nathan Hales and Amber Rutter winning medals in Paris this summer.

International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) president Luciano Rossi said he was “disappointed” that shooting would not be part of the programme for 2026, but added: “I am not surprised because of the unique challenges facing the CGF [Commonwealth Games Federation] to organise the games in 2026 following the withdrawal.

“I have been reassured by the CGF leadership that any decision not to include shooting sport in the 2026 programme will not set a precedent for future games.

“ISSF, along with other international federations, has been invited to discuss ways the CGF can create a sustainable future for the Commonwealth Games.”
