The Moorland Association and the British Beekeepers’ Association (BBA) are calling on moorland managers to set up more beehives, which not only benefit honeybees by providing them with heather flowers, but also help the heather set to seed, creating a stronger plant. BBA’s Martin Smith said: “Bees improve the set of the heather seed by pollinating it rather than leaving it to the wind.”
