Shooting Times salutes British shooting?s new superstar!

Peter Wilson, the 25-year-old farmer?s son from Dorset, broke down in tears after winning Olympic gold in the men?s double trap this afternoon.

After qualifying in first place, he never looked in danger of relinquishing his lead, and eventually won by two shots from Sweden’s Hakan Dahlby.

Commentating live on BBC1, David Oates said: “He held his nerve brilliantly ? he’s a giant of a man and you almost feel at times that he could reach out and touch the traps.”

The gold is Britain?s first at an Olympic shooting event since Richard Faulds took double trap gold at Sydney in 2000.
