Five places to go clay pigeon shooting in Wiltshire

Wiltshire is a county of high downlands combined with wide valleys and offers shooters exciting variety.

If you’re after somewhere to shoot clays in the country, here’s a list of shooting grounds in Wiltshire.

We’ve deliberately included diverse experiences – some grounds are small and run by volunteers whilst others offer luxurious accommodation and simulated shooting.

Shooting grounds in Wiltshire for clayshooters

1. Barbury Shooting School, Marlborough Downs 

Situated just off the M4, this is a very organised set-up. The shooting school is open every day and offers clayshooters practice sessions and tuition as well as other activities including air rifles and simulated game days. One to one lessons are offered, or in groups of three.

2. Hugo Vincent Shooting School, Castle Coombe

If you fancy a touch of five star luxury, then this is the place. You also won’t find many prettier places to learn to shoot or brush up on your technique. The location is surrounded by trees and really makes you feel away from it all. The beginner one day course has you shooting clays in the morning with a simulated game shoot in the afternoon, and there are also intermediate and advanced days for the more experienced.

3. Hilldrop Shoot, Ramsbury 

Hilldrop says: “We have made it our mission to take clay shooting to a whole different level…” Beginners, experts and purist game shots are all catered for. This would be an excellent place to take youngsters on a learn-to-shoot day.

4. Wood Farm Clay Shooting Club, Mere

Tuition is available with qualified instructors who are happy to help, whether you are a novice or an experienced shot.  Private parties and corporate days are welcomed and organised to suit you. The club was set up in 1987 and membership has grown steadily since then.

5. Urchfont Clay Pigeon Club

Run by a group of experienced volunteers, the club always welcomes visitors to the ground. Beginners can ‘have a go’ provided they are accompanied by a safe shot. The club caters to all levels of shooting ability and has a high tower at 35 metres.

6. The Valley Shooting Ground, Nr Chippenham

A shooting ground in several acres of beautiful countryside with a team of staff and instructors to help you hone your clayshooting skills. New Shots are welcome, and the ground offers group and private instruction.

7. Oakwood Shooting Ground, Dauntsey
Set on farmland. There is always a minimum of five stands available with different variety of birds. You’ll need a 4×4 vehicle to access the site in bad weather.
