The Countryside Alliance (CA) has asked the Government to limit the information available on a national database of microchipped dogs over fears that it could be used by thieves.

Under the Dangerous Dogs Bill, all dogs will need to be microchipped and owners’ details recorded from April 2016. The CA said: “We are concerned about the level of access to databases, which will be available to local authorities, vets and rehoming centres, as well as, we assume, the RSPCA and others.”
