THE WHITE SWAN INN in Pickering, North Yorkshire is a great example of what can be done with a bit of forward thinking.
In this wonderful part of the country the opportunities for shooting are rife. The White Swan specialises in catering for visiting parties of guns, with a newly built clubhouse and converted stable block, whole teams can book in for the weekend and enjoy the excellent food and hospitality.
The clubhouse has a bar, a selection of books and a pool table and has a modern, yet comfortable ambience.
As the Inn’s owners are very pro-shooting the walls are tastefully decorated with game shooting and hunting scenes, and with so many excellent shoots in this area there are many options. And if you are visiting outside of the shooting season there is plenty to see in this spectacular part of the country.
The new contemporary rooms in the stable block are excellently furnished and decorated and are very comfortable, with sumptuous bathrooms.
The restaurant and its food are first rate, as is the very friendly and attentive service.
The pigeon risotto starter is sublime. The main courses are also excellent, with plenty of game and a well thought out wine list to match the food. The Inn has a passion for local produce and for organic food.
With their full understanding of the needs of shooting people and a good sense of humour this is a great place to go with your syndicate.
On a final note a must for anyone’s visit is a read through the hotel information guide, which can be found in the rooms. As well as being a great reference guide, it is written in a wonderfully whimsical, tongue-in-cheek style, which makes it entertaining in its own right.
