Weihrauch HW100 X Sporter review: The future of air rifles
Dave Barham reviews the groundbreaking Weihrauch HW100 X Sporter. Discover the new regulated system, increased shot count, and advanced design of this flagship PCP.
Dave Barham reveals the new Buccaneer Pro sidelever, a wallet friendly addition to the hugely popular range of British made PCP air rifles.
The Buccaneer SE PCP rifle has been a success. It has long been a favourite for bolt action lovers. BSA has given this model a complete overhaul. They have produced a new sidelever version.
This is the Buccaneer Pro. BSA worked closely with distributor Range Right. They have produced a truly budget friendly beauty.
The Buccaneer Pro comes in two stock options. There is a traditional beech wood version. A modern black synthetic variant is also available.
This gives the rifle two different weights. The beech weighs 7.4lb. The synthetic weighs 7.7lb. Surprisingly the lengths differ slightly too.
The beech version measures 952mm. The synthetic model is 10mm longer. Both stocks feature similar stylish lines.
They have ambidextrous cheekpieces. There is ample stippling on the grip. The front end profile is slim. It sits nicely in your leading hand.
I like the steep rake of the stock. The butt end has a deep scallop shape. This suits shooters who keep their thumb up top.
The cut away provides comfortable thumb support. The safety lever is a classic design. It sits above the trigger unit.
Simply push it forward to fire. Pull it back to make the rifle safe. A vented rubber butt pad sits at the rear.
It is fixed in position. Pre fitted studs are a nice extra. They provide anchorage for a sling or bipod.
Factory fitting saves you the job. It avoids mistakes during installation.
With a scope fitted the balance point changes. It falls about 5 inches down the forend. This is a huge area of pivot.
It will suit many different sized shooters. BSA includes a removable Picatinny rail. This sits on top of a traditional dovetail rail.
You can use traditional day scopes. You can also mount night vision units easily. The Buccaneer Pro covers both options. No additional mounts are needed.
The rifle is built on the monobloc platform. It is super strong. It is machined to high tolerances.
The sidelever action is superb. It is extremely easy to use. It is a short stroke biathlon type.
It is spring loaded. The final pull cocks it. The entire action is silky smooth. The short drop handle aids this.
The cold hammer forged barrel remains. It is 470mm long. The rifle does not come with a moderator.
I suggest hunters add one. Use the standard UNF thread.
The 10 shot magazine sits behind the barrel. It pulls out from the left. Load pellets easily.
Rotate the drum to increase spring tension. It is very pellet friendly. It features a countdown display.
You can see how many pellets remain. The .177 and .22 models hold 10 shots. The .25 model holds eight.
The two stage trigger is excellent. It is a tweaked version from the Scorpion range. It was developed specifically for this airgun.
You can adjust the second stage weight. You can also tweak the pull length. The test gun had a long first stage.
The second stage was short and crisp. It needed no adjusting. The break has zero creep.
A brand new regulator improves efficiency. The .177 test gun ran at 11.4ft/lb. Variation was just 9fps over 10 shots.
Expect 155 shots in .177 from a fill. You get 210 shots in .22 and .25. This is a vast improvement.
Filling is via a probe. The inlet hides behind a rotating shroud. A colour coded gauge sits at the end.
The Buccaneer Pro is extremely accurate. I landed pellet on pellet at 30m. Groups were small at 35m.
Legendary barrels contribute to this precision. The power output is consistent. The trigger is very predictable.
This is a great alternative to the R10. It is well worth exploring.
