When I was younger I had a very dominant right eye, but as I have grown older I have developed a very pronounced master eye problem. Short of closing my left eye when I shoot, is there some other mechanical means that would help me? I do nowadays wear prescription spectacles.

This happens to all of us! In my youth I could shoot a rifle with iron sights with both eyes wide open.
Now I definitely can’t, and I also have the same trouble as you when shooting with my shotgun.
I can only speak as I find, and for me closing one eye is not the answer – it restricts my field of vision far too much, and shooting with a contorted face isn’t very pleasant either.
However, some many years ago a shooting coach gave me a tip, which I still find effective.
I stick a small square of Sellotape on the centre of the left lens of my specs.
This just blurs the vision through my left eye slightly, and restores my right eye to dominance. Hope it works for you!
