Number of jobseekers in shooting industry falls

The Macclesfield-based company has been advertising for a Sales Advisor for their Shooting Sports Division since September, but has only received a handful of CVs to date.

Managing Director, Derek Edgar, said: “While other companies in the sector may have a recruitment freeze in place, we are continuing to expand and need to recruit pivotal roles within the business.”

“Before the financial crisis, we would usually attract in excess of 80 CVs from all over the country. This is a dream job for anyone interested in shooting sports!”

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s Keith Gallagher says he is not surprised by the industry’s plight.

“It’s a sign of the times. Those that do have the necessary skills will be well looked after in their current jobs. Employers are keen to retain their best staff.”

“However, it is worth remembering that with the current job losses in the public sector coupled with the recently announced lay-offs at BAE Systems in the north west region, there will probably be workers with relevant skills coming onto the market in the next few months.”
