Welsh Game Fair moves to the Black Mountains

The Welsh Game Fair is moving to Glanusk Estate for 2024.

The GWCT Welsh Game Fair will move from its current home at Vaynol Estate to Glanusk Estate in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park next year. Taking place on the 8-9 June 2024, the relocated event has signed a 10-year licence with Glanusk.

“Glanusk Estate has a long tradition of hosting great events in the heart of the Black Mountains, as far back as 1976 with the original game fair,” said estate owner Harry Legge-Bourke. “This event is a real showcase for the diversity of the Welsh countryside and those who live, breathe, work and cherish this great place.”

Lee Oliver, GWCT director of Wales, added: “We want to see a Welsh countryside that is thriving, rich in game and wildlife and supportive of everyone who lives and works in it. This is the perfect way to show off what it has to offer and why it is important to look after it and preserve it for generations to come.”

Wales-based ST contributor Gethin Jones said: “I can understand why the organisers might wish to move the Welsh Game Fair to a venue that has a proven track record in organising large outdoor events, including previous Welsh game fairs. I’m sure that the GWCT Fair will only go from strength to strength and I wish it all the very best.

“North Wales now has no large country sports event in its calendar. Perhaps this is an opportunity for someone to put on a similar show in north Wales?” he mused.
