On Saturday 12th December, The Schools Challenge, the nation’s largest young shots organisation, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a clayshooting contest at The Oxford Gun Company.
The overall winner Tom Scott, aged just 16, is now the proud owner of his first car, courtesy of Stratstone.
Runners up were for the Top Five Young Shots in the UK were:
2nd – Frederick Williams (who won a Browning Europe 727 Shotgun)
3rd – Max Harwood (who won a Rizzini Shotgun)
4th – Bobby Murray (who won a Bowman Auto Trap)
5th – Dominic Arkell (who won a Bowman Auto Trap)
Commonwealth Silver Medallist Matthew French gave an illuminating speech urging each of the young shots to pursue their sporting dreams, saying: “It was fantastic to see such a great standard of shooting from such young competitors and equally as important such brilliant sportsmanship from each of them towards each other especially considering the value of the top prizes on offer!
“I wish there had been Young Shots initiatives like it around when I was a junior as they are a fantastic help to get the new Young Shots enjoying the sport and correctly developing the skills required to improve at a good pace.
Thanks to initiatives like the schools challenge there has never been a better time to be coming into the sport as a junior.”
Upheavals within two prominent animal welfare charities have sparked concerns about their governance and what goes on behind the scenes.
