A good tweed shooting coat will last you for years
In days gone by nobody out in the field wore anything but tweed. Then Gore-Tex came along and shook things up a bit, with its breathable, waterproof qualities. But tweed has fought back and is now equally as popular, and deservedly so.
“Tweed is the original performance fabric” says John Sugden of Campbells of Beauly, who regularly tailor tweeds for customers. Writing about the origins of tweed for Shooting Times, farmer, keen Shot and award-winning writer Patrick Laurie notes: “Many people outside the sporting world often struggle to understand why tweed is so important, but like so many aspects of our sporting heritage, everything becomes clear when you see a day’s shooting in action.”
Chris Horne, Managing Director of Guns on Pegs said: “I’m a lover of the tweed field coat so to have brands like Schöffel and Musto modernise that iconic item with the latest technology means they’ll last long into the future. Coming in from a wet day weighing two stone heavier and smelling like a wet dog is a bit of a thing of the past, thankfully, so if you’re still in one of those long standing jackets, definitely head out for one of the new technical best tweed shooting coats.”
